A Presidential Women's Health Transformative Initiative
The Federal Government of Nigeria has unveiled RenewHER — the Presidential Women’s Health Transformation Initiative, a groundbreaking national strategy designed to make women’s health a cornerstone of national development.
The initiative, launched under the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Women’s Health (OSSAP-WH), marks a historic moment as Nigeria establishes the first-ever dedicated Office on Women’s Health at the Presidency.
Representing His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, at the official launch in Abuja, the Vice President, His Excellency Sen. Kashim Shettima, emphasized that RenewHER reflects the President’s leadership under the Renewed Hope Agenda — a vision that places women at the centre of the nation’s growth and prosperity.
A Turning Point for Women’s Health
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Women’s Health, Dr. Adanna Steinacker, described RenewHER as a movement that seeks to redefine Nigeria’s approach to women’s health through innovation, data, and collaboration.
She stated that the initiative is not just a policy milestone but a turning point — one that acknowledges women’s health as the backbone of economic progress and social equity.
“Women’s health is now a national priority,” Dr. Steinacker affirmed. “This is about ensuring that every Nigerian woman — from urban cities to rural communities — feels seen, valued, and supported. Including women is an economic priority; when women are healthy, societies are richer, and nations grow stronger.”
A Multi-Pillar Strategy
RenewHER is built around bold, scalable pillars aimed at delivering measurable impact:
The Women’s Health Nigeria Multimedia Hub: A technology-enabled digital platform for nationwide health education, advocacy, and storytelling. It will serve as a hub for combating misinformation, raising health literacy, and promoting health-seeking behaviours across communities.
Geo-Targeted National Campaigns: Addressing priority areas such as Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (MNCH), Reproductive Health, Menstrual Equity, Adolescent Health, Menopause, Preventive Care, and Healthcare Workforce Development.
Dr. Steinacker disclosed that through these channels, RenewHER aims to reach over 100 million Nigerians within three years, with community-specific programmes tailored to reflect local realities and needs.
Collaboration for Impact
The launch of RenewHER brought together key figures in governance, development, and the private sector. Strategic partners include the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), Nigeria Governors’ Spouses Forum (NGSF), the Maternal and Neonatal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative (MAMII), the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH), and the Women in Healthcare Network (WIHCN).
Their collective leadership ensures that RenewHER is not only visionary but operational — designed to deliver practical results that transform lives.
In addition to health advocacy, the initiative will also create economic opportunities for women through digital wallets, microgrants, capacity-building, and women-led innovations, empowering women as active participants in Nigeria’s development agenda.
