Did you know that over 37 million Nigerian women and girls struggle to afford essential menstrual products?
For far too many, something as natural as a period becomes a barrier to education, opportunity, and dignity.
Approximately 24% of Nigerian girls miss classes during menstruation due to a lack of access to hygienic facilities and menstrual products—disrupting their education, affecting their health, and limiting their future opportunities.
It’s time for real, lasting change to end period poverty in Nigeria!
That’s why I am thrilled to announce that we are embarking on one of Nigeria’s most ambitious national campaigns to eradicate period poverty, and most importantly address the narrative and stigma around menstruation—‘Flow With Confidence’.
This groundbreaking initiative, championed by The First Lady of Nigeria, Sen Oluremi Tinubu under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), is more than just charity—it is a sustainable movement designed to empower women and girls across Nigeria!
Through ‘Flow With Confidence’ sanitary pads will be distributed nationwide, ensuring that girls, especially from the most vulnerable communities, don’t miss school because of their periods.
Each state, including the Federal Capital Territory, will receive 10,000 cartons of pads, with Governors’ wives overseeing the distribution to guarantee that every schoolgirl benefits.
The First Lady has also prioritised local production, ensuring that this initiative not only tackles period poverty but also stimulates local economies and promotes environmental sustainability.
We are actively seeking collaborators—public and private sector organisations, NGO’s, policymakers, and individuals—who are dedicated to advancing menstrual justice in the world.
This includes those working to end period poverty, improve access to menstrual health products, and challenge the stigma surrounding menstruation.
Whether you are part of a global brand, a local sanitary pad manufacturer, a grassroots NGO advocating for menstrual equity, or a budding entrepreneur driving systemic change in women’s health particularly to end period poverty, we invite you to partner with us.
Your expertise, resources, and commitment can help scale Flow With Confidence into a lasting movement.
If you or someone you know is working in this space and is interested in collaborating on this monumental initiative alongside the First Lady of Nigeria, please reach out or mention them in the comments below!
Together, let’s close the gender health gap and ensure that women and girls across Nigeria—and Africa—are equipped with the knowledge, tools, and resources they need to live healthy, fulfilled lives.
